Welsh Conservative Assembly Candidate Darren Millar has welcomed an announcement which could give an economic boost to Colwyn Bay.
The Welsh Conservatives have unveiled a package of proposals to support the promotion and regeneration of Wales’ seaside towns. Under the initiative, seaside towns could be designated as Enterprise Zones and small businesses would see their business rates abolished.
Commenting on the announcement, Darren Millar said:
“Tourism is the bread and butter of the economy in North Wales but seaside towns such as Colwyn Bay are not reaching their full potential because they are not receiving the support they need.
“Colwyn Bay is a beautiful town with a great deal to offer, yet tourism is often overlooked as a driver for it’s regeneration. The town needs more support to encourage the growth of small businesses, more investment in amenities and effective marketing as a destination for visitors.
“The current improvements to the waterfront, along with improvements to Theatre Colwyn and plans to develop the Welsh Mountain Zoo will help, but we also need to move quickly to resolve the situation with regard to the Victoria Pier and extend support to local retailers and other businesses.
“I have no doubt that Colwyn Bay would thrive if it were to be designated as an Enterprise Zone.”
