This Easter visitors to National Museum Cardiff can welcome the return of two of the museum’s popular resident animals who are back from their winter break. The basking shark and the fox will be back on display from Saturday 16 April at the reopened Natural History galleries on the ground floor, which have been closed after a period of spring cleaning.
The natural history galleries house the Museum’s popular collections of animals, birds and insects. The lower galleries see the return of the seashore and woodland displays, where the animals on display have been painstakingly cleaned by specialists, the walls repainted and new carpets installed.
Ever wanted to see what goes on behind the scenes of the museum? Well now you can! National Museum Cardiff will be hosting a Natural History Open Day on Wednesday 20 April 11am – 4pm. Explore the collections housed in our museum, book onto a special behind-the-scenes tour at 11.30am or 2.30pm or meet our experts at displays in the Main Hall.
Dr Deborah Spillards from National Museum Cardiff who has been leading on the project said:
“We are delighted that the lower Natural History galleries have been refreshed and are reopen to visitors. A lot of the animals in the displays have been sorely missed so we hope visitors will drop in over the Easter period to say hello again and try our ‘tree of life’ activities. Don’t forget you can also come face to face with dinosaurs and woolly mammoths and there’s a whole host of things to see here at the museum over the holidays.”
Visitors to National Museum Cardiff can also take part in and Easter Egg Hunt over Easter weekend 22-25 April, 11am-4pm. Find the eggs hidden around the Museum to win a prize!
