Children from the Edern area of Llŷn are supporting Gwynedd Council’s campaign to encourage people to be greener by making the best use of the waste composting and recycling services available to them.
The younger members of the Edern branch of the Urdd have been busy making posters which encourage people to use the composting service provided by Gwynedd Council’s waste and recycling team by putting their kitchen waste in the brown bin. This service is set to be extended over the coming weeks.
Following a successful pilot scheme, the Council will now be providing a weekly brown bin collection to all Dwyfor homes.
Gwenllian Roberts, Gwynedd Council’s Waste and Recycling Officer, visited members of the Edern Urdd branch to explain to the children why it’s important that we all recycle and compost as much waste as possible, how to use the 22 litre brown bin and what happens to the waste once it’s collected.
The posters will be used as part of Gwynedd Council’s wider campaign to encourage more people to do their bit for the environment by recycling and composting their waste.
Gwenllian Roberts, Gwynedd Council’s Waste and Recycling Officer, said: “These posters are brilliant and we will hang them up on our recycling trailer where people can see them when we travel the length and breadth of Dwyfor raising awareness about the weekly food collection service.
“The children of Gwynedd are very aware of how much food is thrown away and about the importance of composting for the sake of the environment.”
