One of Wales’s handsomest hunks will be putting his makeup skills to the test this Saturday (April 30) and it’s all in a good cause.
Good-looking Chris Millard will be at The Body Shop at Swansea’s Quadrant Shopping Centre to do charity makeovers in aid of The Joshua Foundation, a charity for children with terminal cancer.
And Chris is no amateur at piling on the slap, the 20-year-old is a professionally trained make-up artist with all the cosmetic skills necessary to make any girl’s day.
Chris, 20, originally from Aberdare, learned his make-up skills when he worked at the Swansea store last year.
It’s just one of the skills of the six-footer who as well as being a dab hand with a make-up brush, is also a grade eight pianist and can mix a mean cocktail.
He entered the competition as a bit of a laugh when a female friend of his was encouraged to enter for the equivalent Miss Wales competition.
Since he found out he has made the final from more than 150 entrants, Chris has organised events to raise money for The Joshua Foundation, a Cardiff based charity set up in 1998 to provide holidays and experiences for children with terminal cancer and their families.
The foundation is the chosen charity for Mister Wales and all entrants are encouraged to use their time in the lead up to the final on July 2 to raise money for it.
The glitzy event is being held at St David’s Hall in Cardiff alongside the Miss Wales competition. The hunky male finalists will take to the catwalk and compete in Welsh wear, swim wear and formal wear categories. They will also have a short interview with a panel of judges.
The winner will receive an all expenses paid trip to either Mister World or Manhunt International.
Chris, a cocktail barman, said that for him, the competition had become more about the money he is raising for charity and he said he is enjoyed the challenge of organising his events.
He said: “Even if I don’t win, then I am doing something good so there will have been a very important reason for doing all this.
“For me it is definitely more about the charity now and playing my part. I mean if I do win then that will be amazing but it is more about the doing good for me now.”
The Body Shop event will be part of Chris’ fundraising drive and he will be asking everyone he has transformed to make a donation.
He was trained up by The Body Shop to give makeovers during the time he worked with them at the Swansea store from August last year to January this year.
He said: “I really like the social part of giving makeovers because you are obviously so up close when you are doing it and I love holding the mirror up at the end and people can see what you have done and love the transformation.”
He added: “I don’t mind how much people donate. Doesn’t matter how big or small because it will all go in the pot and every little bit will help.”
