Gifted young musicians to play in Margam Abbey

Musically gifted senior members of Bridgend County Borough Youth Orchestra will perform at Margam Abbey on Saturday 7 May at 7.30pm. Organised by Bridgend County Borough Council’s Children’s Directorate, the evening will feature string and jazz orchestras, harp ensembles and wind band, playing a varied programme ranging from the ‘Marriage of Figaro’ by Mozart, highlights from the musical ‘Wicked’ to ‘Secret Love’ and ‘Crazy For You’ by Gershwin.

Bridgend County Borough Council’s Bridgend Music Service continues to thrive, with over 1,600 children learning instruments in schools each week and almost 300 attending weekly rehearsals.

Bridgend County Borough Council’s music co-ordinator Jeff Ryan said: “Many of our senior musicians playing in Margam Abbey have attended weekly rehearsals for most of their school lives. Learning to play an instrument has great benefits in all aspects of life. The discipline of study and performing together develops team spirit and self esteem. Our high standard of the more advanced ensembles is due entirely to the dedication of our members over the years.”

Don’t miss the opportunity to listen to the musicians of the future within the idyllic surroundings of Margam Abbey. Tickets are £6.50 / £3 concessions which are available by calling Jeff Ryan on (01656) 642658 / 07961 192408.
