There will be an opportunity to learn more about the former prime minister, Lloyd George, and how he left his mark on a nation’s history, during a special event in Llanystumdwy.
The open day will be held in the Lloyd George Museum and Tŷ Newydd Llanystumdwy – the village where the Welsh Wizard grew up – on Saturday, 7 May.
One of the day’s highlights will be the chance to hear about Lloyd George introducing National Insurance back in 1911, and how the stamp became a basis for modern social welfare procedure by offering insurance against illness or unemploment to the working class.
The day is held by Gwynedd Council’s Archives, Museums and Arts service in partnership with the Friends of the Lloyd George Museum and Tŷ Newydd writing centre.
The organisers are keen to hear local stories about Lloyd George. There will be a chance to write or talk about past memories with the Tŷ Newydd Centre staff so that they are on record at Gwynedd’s Record Office and Lloyd George Museum, so future generations can enjoy them.
Nest Thomas, Gwynedd Council’s Principal Museums and Arts Officer:
“We would invite people and children of all ages to come to enjoy the buzz in Llanystumdwy. There will be something for everyone in the open day including presentations, films, nature expedition and a chance to join a school lesson like Victorian children would’ve experienced.
“Lloyd George is one of the greats in national history as well as local history, and it’s great to be able to celebrate his contribution.”
