The new Garwnant Visitor Centre on the outskirts of Merthyr Tydfil is proving hugely popular for its outdoor trails and state-of-the-art facilities, but it will be murder there next week.
The Forestry Commission Wales-run centre, which has re-opened after a three-year refurbishment, is hosting a murder mystery event where guests will be invited to become super sleuths to solve the dastardly crime.
The script for the whodunnit was written by Garwnant’s own Recreation Ranger Arnold Thomas and the play will be performed by students from the Atrium Theatre in Cardiff on Saturday, May 14 at 7.30pm.
The fiendish plot is set in the 1920s, in the fictional village of Huntsmanshire where a murder takes place at the manor of DCI Black.
The visitor centre has re-established itself as an important asset to the local community since it re-opened last summer.
In addition to the café and conference facilities in the centre, the waymarked walking and cycling trails draw visitors from far and wide.
Sam Detheridge, Visitor Centre Manager, said, “Garwnant is the perfect setting for this event, as the surrounding forest increases the mysterious ambience.
“Add that to the combination of great acting and an exciting script, and I know it will be an evening to remember. So come along and try your hand at solving the great Garwnant whodunnit.”
Tickets for the murder mystery evening cost £9 per person. Parking is available on site and is included in the ticket price. If you like, why not wear 1920s style clothes to fit in with the theme of the play?
