Volunteers are being sought to join a Car Park Watch Scheme to help reduce crime.
The Car Park Watch scheme in Gwent are looking for additional volunteers from the Abergavenny and Blaenavon areas to join them to help prevent crime in car parks and rural areas of Gwent.
Patrols are made using a highly branded van around local car parks. Volunteers warn members of the public about leaving valuables on display and give out crime prevention leaflets.
PC Rob Maddocks is the Gwent Police Co-ordinator for Car Park Watch. He explained, “This scheme is a valuable tool to help us with crime prevention. Unfortunately, vehicles with valuables left on display in car parks are sometimes targeted by thieves.
“The volunteers provide us with essential information about crime which we can act on.”
Volunteers don’t need any experience to volunteer apart from a full diving licence. Volunteers should be willing to work for at least four hours per week and can claim travelling expenses.
If anyone wants to know more about this scheme or would like to become a volunteer, please contact the Car Park Watch Co-ordinator Derek Lee on 07773 454699.
