Record breaking affordable housing levels in Denbighshire

Denbighshire has exceeded its original target of 140 affordable homes in the county and has gone on to create 155 units, a record breaking level – despite the current economic downturn.

All this has been made possible by using sources of funding from the Welsh Assembly, private finance and assistance from the local Housing Associations.

By working together the organisations have been able to provide assistance to local developers by bringing sites forward which may not have gone ahead due to the downturn.

Councillor David Thomas, Cabinet Lead Member with responsibility for housing, said: “New houses have been secured for sale and for rent across the whole county, all at affordable prices and specifically for local people.  Empty homes have been brought back into use and have assisted people in the purchase of new home, with Homebuy loans.

“One of our key projects has been the prevention of homelessness in Denbighshire where we have assisted residents who were in danger of losing their home, with help of Mortgage Rescue funding provided by the Welsh Assembly Government.

“This is a great achievement by all the organisations involved working in such a difficult climate and shows what can be done when all those involved can work together in collaboration’.
