Man fined for using threatening behaviour towards parking officers

Using threatening behaviour towards two council parking officers has resulted in a Swansea man being fined.

Mark Anthony Butler from Page Street, Swansea, appeared in Swansea Magistrates on Thursday May 5 and admitted to one offence under section 5 of the Public Order Act of using threatening behaviour towards two parking enforcement officers employed by Swansea Council.

Mr Anthony received a fine of £100, costs of £250 and a victim surcharge of £15. He was issued with a restraining order which will be in force until November 2012.

Phil Davies, the Council’s Parking Enforcement Manager, said: “There is no excuse for this sort of behaviour towards staff simply carrying out their duties.

“The number of physical and verbal attacks against my staff in the last few years is totally unacceptable and we will do everything we can to ensure they are protected.

“Individuals should realise that if they have received a fixed penalty then it’s because they have parked illegally in the first place. The majority of motorists accept the fine and act accordingly.

“Parking enforcement is an important service in Swansea that helps keep roads free of illegal parking and assists the free flow of traffic.”
