S4C announces establishment of co-production and digital funds

In a reception for politicians in Westminster yesterday, S4C Chief Executive, Arwel Ellis Owen announced the details of a new fund to support television co-productions.

The co-production fund will be established with S4C commercial funds and will be worth over £1m a year for four years.

Arwel Ellis Owen said a digital fund would also be established to promote developments in the fields of multi-platform and digital media. “Recently, the Welsh Assembly Government announced it was keen to establish a fund worth £10m in this field and S4C is eager to play a part in this development and to invest in the fund,” he said.

“I hope too that the co-production fund will make the best use of the commercial funds to encourage production companies to think ambitiously about content for the future.”

Arwel Ellis Owen confirmed S4C’s commitment to broadcast from Wales’ major summer events, the Urdd National Eisteddfod, the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, the Royal Welsh Show and the National Eisteddfod, for the coming years.
