Following the announcement of the First Minister’s cabinet, South Wales East AM Mohammad Asghar has expressed disappointment that responsibilities for agriculture have been relegated to a non-cabinet position.
The First Minister announced seven Ministerial appointments on Friday – but responsibility for agriculture will lie with a Deputy Minister, who also holds responsibility for food, fisheries and European programmes.
Mr Asghar said: “Rural areas have a hugely important role to play in the future development, success and prosperity of Wales.
“There remains an urgent need in Wales to improve the competitiveness of our rural communities and the Assembly Government has to be ready to deal with this challenge.
“All steps must be taken to ensure our rural communities are sustainable – so I am disappointed and concerned that responsibility for agriculture has been relegated to a Deputy Ministerial role”.
