This photograph shows the lengths that off-road vandals who tear around the countryside on motorbikes and 4×4 vehicles are prepared to go to indulge in their dangerous activity.
The graphic image taken by Forestry Commission Wales depict the damage caused by vandals who rammed barriers and a metal fence at the top of Cwmcarn Forest Drive just off Mynydd Maen Common in a bid to gain access to the countryside.
They also pulled the pedestrian cattle grid almost out of the ground, which prevented people walking along the public right of way from using the entrance.
The vandals caused £850 damage in their determination to carry out their anti-social activity, which wreaks havoc in the countryside and puts the lives of other forest users at risk.
Forestry Commission Wales works closely with the police to clamp down on offenders and anyone successfully prosecuted for illegally off-roading or causing malicious damage can face a heavy fine and having their vehicle seized.
FC Wales Woodland Manager Andrew Powell said, “The people who engage in this activity have no thought for the safety of the public who enjoy our woodlands, or for the damage they cause to the environment.
“Ultimately, it’s the taxpayer who has to pick up the bill to repair the damage they cause and we are appealing for any information on who may have done this so that we can bring them to account.”
