Young musicians make it

Winners of an annual music and media project in Rhondda Cynon Taf saw their music videos premiered at Pontypridd’s Muni Arts Centre.

Six-piece band Indie-Go Modem from Pontypridd and Treorchy-based rock band Amerette were selected to make their own videos in the sixth annual Make iT! Music and Media project.

The talented young team who were chosen to create the videos were Elliott Howells, Matthew Gibson, Sam Jones, Ashley Hatch, Madi Thorne, Bethan Wyllis, Kyra Taylor, Neirin Hobson, Jacob Oldham, Michelle Smith and Aaron Cooper.

This year, eight students from the Make Up and the Costume Construction courses at Coleg Morgannwg were also invited to join the project. Students Kirsty Parsons, Hafina Caru Harris, Christine Lowes, Tanya Rowe, Katie Lyons, Loraine Clarke, Anya Morgan and Leah Kinsey worked with both bands, styling them for the videos.

The team of young people worked closely with each band; a team of professional film-makers from Aberdare-based media production company Tantrwm and with film producer Alan Golding. The videos were screened at a special premiere at the Muni.

Make iT! is run annually by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Youth Arts Programme and is funded jointly by the Council’s European Social Funded project “Building the Future Together”, Fframwaith and 14-19 Learning Pathways grant.

Liz Driscoll, Youth Arts Co-ordinator, Rhondda Cynon Taf Cultural Services, said: “The showcase was a huge success and a lot of fun. All the young people who took part in Make iT! this year have once again learnt such a lot and grown in confidence.”

Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Cllr Robert Bevan, said: “Well done to everyone involved in this exciting project. Every year, band members and media students alike have said how important Make iT! has been to their personal and career development.”
