Denbighshire is gearing up for a fantastic spectacle, when the Royal Welsh Regiment marches through Denbigh town centre, where they will be officially granted the Freedom of the County on Saturday, 11 June.
Residents are being advised to attend the event on foot where possible due to the road closures that will be in place during the event and the possibly high volumes of people coming into the town by car.
Itinerary:
The Royal Welsh and Band of the Prince of Wales’ division will step off from Caledfryn Council Offices, at 12.10pm, marching down Smithfield Road, through Lenten Pool to the town centre, where there will be speeches for Conferring the Freedom of Denbighshire, which should last around 20 – 25 minutes.
The 1st Battalion, The Royal Welsh, will then march down Vale street and on to Denbigh Leisure Centre for refreshments.
Denbighshire’s Chairman, Councillor Bill Cowie will be inspecting the parade at the town centre and said: “This promises to be a remarkable event for the County and we are hoping as many people from across the county as possible will attend on the day to ensure we give the Royal Welsh Regiment the best Denbighshire welcome we can.
“We would like to encourage people living within walking distance to attend on foot where possible in order to minimise the inevitable disruption to motorists due to the road closures and diversions that will be in place during the event.
The road closures will be in place along Smithfield Road, Lenten Pool, Bridge Street, High Street and Vale Street. Diversions and traffic management will also be in place around the Ruthin Road and Rhyl Road areas.
Information is available on Denbighshire’s website at www.denbighshire.gov.uk/freedomofthecounty. The information on road closures and diversions will be placed here as they are confirmed.
