Award for Denbighshire’s Marsh tracks project

Every year the Institution of Civil Engineers (Wales) gives a series of awards for projects that they feel are worthy of special commendation and Denbighshire’s Marsh Tracks project has been honoured in the 2011 celebrations.

There are two main awards, one for projects up to £3m in value, and one for projects over £3m in value.   The I.C.E. looked at over 200 schemes when making their decision, and this year Denbighshire’s Marsh Tracks project won the main ‘up to £3m’  prize.

The project has transformed a council-owned brownfield site into a new recycling park, and a national standard cycling facility.

The I.C.E. judges said that the council’s project  “ticked all the boxes, particularly sustainability and community involvement”.

Approx. 25% of the funding for the project came via the Welsh Assembly Government’s Strategic Regeneration Area grant scheme.

Steve Parker, Head of Environmental Services said “This wasn’t an easy project to manage, but Denbighshire now has a top quality facility that it can be proud of.

“There are only two BMX tracks in the UK with an Olympic standard starting gate and Denbighshire now has one of them”.
