Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar has called for the planning process for wind farms to be overhauled.
Darren pledged his support for the reform of Technical Advice Note 8 after addressing a crowd of protestors at the Senedd yesterday. The 1,500 protestors were objecting to controversial power and wind energy plans and calling for a reform of the current planning process for onshore wind farms.
Darren said:
‘The planning process for wind farms needs to be completely overhauled. The current planning guidelines issued by the Welsh Government are completely flawed and the number of protestors at the Senedd shows the strength of opposition to them.
‘The voice of local people is often ignored in the planning process and this needs to change.’
He added, ‘Wind farms should only be developed when they enjoy the support of the local community.’
Conwy County Borough Council is currently considering a proposed wind farm development in the Gwytherin area in Darren’s constituency.
