Flintshire Wins Town Centre Award

Flintshire County Council’s work to regenerate the county’s towns through its Town Centre Partnership programme has been recognised by the national organisation, Action for Market Towns (AMT) in its annual awards for Wales. The partnership approach has been awarded the ‘Partnerships and Strategy’ prize for the work in Mold, Buckley, Queensferry, Shotton, Connah’s Quay, Flint and Holywell.

Cllr Matt Wright, Executive Member for Regeneration and Tourism said;

“We are very proud of our towns and our partners who do so much locally. We know that, like town centres across the UK, there are a range of challenges. In the face of this we want to make our towns better places for those people that live in them and visit or work in them.

“That is why we have worked very hard with local town councils, businesses and community groups to develop plans to make our towns more attractive and more vibrant places. A large range of projects have been set up or completed with much more to follow.

“The approach is a structured solution using Master Plans for our towns that demonstrate commitment, local “buy-in” and direction to the right investment decisions. It is very gratifying to receive recognition from an organisation like the AMT. I want to give my thanks to all the County Council staff and to our partners who have put in so many hours of hard work to make this approach such a success.

“We know it is only the start, there is a lot more to do, but it is great to see that a national organisation endorses the approach as the right way forward and an example of best practice.”

The awards ceremony will take place at Deganwy on 23 June 2011.
