Pupils swapped their uniforms for the hottest new summer threads as part of a fashion show to raise hundreds of pounds for their Swansea school.
Weeks of preparation have gone into the event at Mayals Primary School in West Cross which was supported by 12 local businesses including the Animal store in the Quadrant Centre, Swansea.
The hip high street chain donated eight outfits for the fashion show which took place on Thursday evening last week (May 26) just before the half term break.
Animal manager, Angharad Penry, from Manselton, said it was the first time her store had been involved in such an event but it had been very worthwhile.
She said: “I think it is important for us to get involved with events in our local community and it is a great way for us to get our children’s range of clothing out there to people.
“We find that sometimes people don’t realise we do children’s clothing so it is a good way for us to let people know and we had some great feedback from people at the fashion show.”
Angharad described the Animal children’s range as “up to date, bright and very trendy.”
She added: “The fashion show was great fun and the children looked like they were really enjoying themselves. There are some lovely bright colours in our range and even though the weather hasn’t been that great, the big bold colours really cheer you up.”
The school event, which is in its second year and involved 72 children, aged 2-11, raised almost £700.
Mayals school pupil, Alexa Jones-Young, had a great time becoming a model for the evening.
Alexa, 10, who would like to be an actress when she grows up, said: “It’s really fun walking down the catwalk and showing off all the lovely clothes.
“I just love being on the stage and doing stuff like that!”
Keely Saville, nursery nurse at the school who was the main organiser of the event said the night had been a huge success with children, parents and teachers.
She said: “Last year, we had five shops involved and this year it was 12 and without the support of stores like Animal, the event would just not be possible.
“I think it is really important to have the support of local stores for events at our school and it is nice that they want to involve themselves in community events like this. We all had a great time and I am sure we will be doing another one next year!”
