Llandudno RNLI inshore lifeboat took part in two large-scale search operations on Saturday (18 June) after a middle-aged woman had been reported missing from the resort.
Launching first at mid-day, just before high water, from Llandudno’s north shore the lifeboat joined police and local coastguards carrying out a search for the missing woman on and around the 679′ high Great Orme headland. A detailed investigation of the cliffs and shoreline from seaward by the lifeboat crew revealed nothing amiss, as did the operations ashore, and the lifeboat returned to station 2 hours later.
After the authorities had received further information regarding the missing person another intensive search operation was mounted during the evening low water period. This further search again involved the RNLI inshore lifeboat together with Llandudno Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team, mountain rescue personnel and the North Wales Police helicopter. Launching at 7.20 p.m. the RNLI crew spent almost 2 hours carrying out a painstaking search of the shoreline and cliffs, on a number of occasions landing a crewman ashore to comb round rocks and boulders and to examine fissures and caves in the cliffs.
Once again nothing amiss was found, as was the case ashore, and the lifeboat returned to station at 9 pm.
