Christmas carols filled the air in Porth town centre at a free festive event attended by thousands of people last Monday.
Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Mayor Cllr Robert Smith welcomed the crowds as the town’s Christmas lights were switched on in Hannah Street and at Porth war memorial.
Children from Porth Junior School led the singing at a Tree of Memory Service, held to remember loved ones, at the war memorial.
Cllr Smith said: “It was wonderful to see so many people of all ages turn out to enjoy the festivities. The Tree of Memory Service was a fitting way to remember family members and friends who cannot be with us this Christmas.”
A book of remembrance will be available for people to put a message in to remember those they have lost.
The book will be available in the Alec Jones Day Centre until Christmas.
Ian Howells of Porth and District Chamber of Trade said: “Thanks to the children and teachers of Porth Junior School for all their hard work in preparing and performing and to Rev. Gethin Rhys and Fr. Chris Cole for their service.
“Thanks also to RCT Town Centre Team, RCT Events Team, South Wales Police and Communities First for all their help in putting on the event.”
