It’s all about cleaning up the environment and making sure that those around them do the same in Cwmdare Primary School.
Four lucky pupils from the school have been chosen to make a difference in their local community as their winning artwork goes on show on lampposts around Cwmdare.
The posters depict clear messages from the pupils, highlighting environmental issues and the consequences that dog fouling can have in a local community.
Tasked by the Council’s Streetcare Enforcement team the school were asked to design the special posters to highlight the importance of placing litter and dog waste in to the bins provided so that they could be made in to signs to make eco-offenders think twice.
After much deliberation by the Streetcare enforcement and awareness team, four lucky winners were chosen and the winning pupils Sam Ashton, Shannon Williams, Scarlet Neary and Gareth Evans who can now see their artwork displayed in their streets around Cwmdare. These signs were sponsored by Cwmdare 4 Cwmdare who contributed £320 towards the production of the 16 signs.
Councillor Anthony Christopher, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Frontline Services, said:
“It is encouraging to see how many children are being inspired by Rhys Cycle and our Streetcare Team who visit various schools on almost a weekly basis and also take part in many events throughout the County Borough.
“It is hoped that when residents see the new, winning signs created by the pupils, they will think twice about littering or allowing their dog to foul in the street.
“Rhondda Cynon Taf is pioneering in its approach to waste management and thanks to initiatives such as Rhys Cycle we can not only ensure that future generations will recycle waste, but they will also encourage the adults at home to do the same.”
