Primary school pupils and sheltered housing tenants have got together in Aberystwyth to form, what is believed to be, Wales’ first Intergenerational Club.
The Club was officially launched on 13 July at Plas Crug Primary School.
A partnership between Tai Ceredigion, Plas Crug Primary School and the Strategy for Older People, Ceredigion County Council, has seen the bringing together of Primary school pupils and sheltered housing tenants to establish an Intergenerational Club.
Over the course of the first two meetings, the pupils and older people have identified a range of activities that they would like to do together as well as establishing ground rules for the Club. Activities proposed for future Club meetings include cooking (and eating), music and singing, art, computers, clothes, book and film clubs, photography, crafts, walking and games. Meetings are held fortnightly and rotate between Maes Gogerddan and Glyn Padarn Sheltered Schemes and Plas Crug Community School.
As cookery and eating was the favourite choice of activity, a special local food tasting session will take place during the launch sponsored by the Fork2Fork campaign. Rhodri Prytherch, a local restaurant owner and chef from Y Ffarmers in Llanfighangel Y Creudyn, will be bringing local food and discussing the advantages of buying local and direct food.

A Club where the generations can come together regularly to learn, share views and experiences as well as have fun, is a perfect way to achieve this. I applaud the innovation and commitment of both Plas Crug Community School and Tai Ceredigion and wish the project every success.’

importance we place on enabling tenants to integrate within their local communities.
Tenants from both Maes Gogerddan and Glyn Padarn sheltered schemes are obviously benefitting from the socialisation opportunities that the Club offers and we look forward to developing further innovative projects across the county.
