Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Community Safety team continue to be as pro-active as ever in helping to tackle anti-social behaviour and build public confidence in Caerphilly county borough.
The team of 10 Community Safety Wardens provide a high visibility presence on the streets of Caerphilly county borough, and play a key role in helping to make our communities even safer places to live, work and visit.
Throughout 2010/11, the Community Safety Wardens referred a total of 63 individuals into the 4-strikes anti-social behaviour process, and issued 297 verbal warnings to individuals taking part in anti-social behaviour.
They also confiscated a total of 669 items of alcohol from under 18’s or people drinking in areas covered by a Designated Public Place Order.
Cllr Rob Gough, Cabinet Member for Public Protection said, “Our team of Community Safety Wardens make a huge difference to our local area. They are consistently at the forefront of helping to combat anti-social behaviour, and are an extremely reassuring presence to local residents, particularly our more vulnerable ones. I am full of praise for the excellent work they do”.
The Community Safety Wardens also aim to provide a visible presence in the community in order to build public confidence, by providing reassurance to local people, and help them to feel safe and proud of where they live.
The Council’s CCTV operators also play a vital role in ensuring Caerphilly county borough remains a very safe place.
Throughout 2010/11, CCTV operators monitored/dealt with a total of 5,281 incidents, and recorded and provided evidence to Gwent Police on 605 occasions.
Cllr Gough continued, “Our CCTV operators work tirelessly to ensure that our towns and villages are monitored 24 hours a day, and these figures clearly illustrate how effective CCTV can be in not only detecting criminal and anti-social behaviour, but also deterring this kind of behaviour from occurring”.
