There be dragons! Grand Medieval Mêlée at Cardiff Castle

Time travelling at its best as we go back to medieval times and adventures with dragons at the Grand Medieval Mêlée on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 August 10am – 5.30pm.

Re-creating  one of the largest medieval tented villages the Castle has ever seen with displays of a way of life that is centuries-old, will be the Cardiff Garrison along with the   re-enactment group,  Company Ecorcheur, who work at castles the length and breadth of the UK.  A highlight of the day will be the falconry display with birds of prey swooping through the site, arriving on the gauntlet of the expert falconer with amazing speed and precision.

For children there is the chance to be a prince or princess for the day, dress up in authentic costumes, take part in the sword fighting school, Have- A-Go archery, or try their hand at juggling skills.  The story-teller, Dylan Adams, will also be here to enthral with tales of the real and mythical characters that inhabited these times.  New for this year, is the appearance of a huge dragon, certain to create mischief on the day, with children invited to join the dragon procession through the site.

Medieval times were also turbulent times. See displays of fighting knights and at 12noon there will be a special shooting of the mighty Trebuchet – a massive catapult that can hurl rocks and boulders over a huge distance.

If you have a Castle Key you can attend this event free of charge, but the advice is to   get your Castle key in advance of the event.
