It’s just not cricket – it’s International Rounders!

St Asaph Cricket Club is set to be taken over on Sunday (21 August) for the International Rounders Event where the Welsh team will compete against other teams from England for the title. The matches begin at 10.30am.

The Welsh team will be celebrating their 40th Anniversary this year. The players come from the Rhyl and surrounding areas along the Coast. The teams taking part include Under 16, Wales “B” Under 21, Wales “A”

The International event was held at Colwyn Bay initially but, for the last five years it has been held at St Asaph Cricket Club.

Barbara Dolan who runs the Welsh team and also plays said she wanted to thank everyone at the Cricket Club for their assistance and support over the last five years.

She explained: “The St Asaph Cricket Club has an excellent ground. Staff at the club look after the teams and their needs better than anywhere else and the club President, Mr.Ken Hodgkinson goes out of his way to make the teams feel at home and nothing is too much trouble.”

Staff from Denbighshire’s Leisure and Youth Services will also be present at the event with the Youth Bus.

Jamie Groves, Denbighshire’s Head of Leisure, Libraries and Community Development, said: “The International Rounders event has become a regular sporting fixture on the St Asaph calendar and it is important that we support  this event.

Chairman of Denbighshire, Councillor Bill Cowie, who is the local member added: “I am delighted to support this event and look forward to welcoming the teams to the County and giving them a warm Welsh welcome.”
