Gwent Police has confirmed that a man wanted in connection with a shooting incident in a Newport hairdressers earlier today has been found dead in woods in the Newport area.
His body was discovered at approximately 20.15 .We are not treating his death as suspicious. We are not looking for anyone in connection with his death.
Three women were injured when a firearm was discharged in the hairdressers, Carol-Ann’s in Malpas Road, near Newport city centre.
One received a gun shot wound to the leg after the man went into the shop armed with a gun.
Officers recovered a shotgun from the hairdressers shop.
Two other women sustained minor injuries.
A car which was being sought in connection with the incident has also been located, again in the Newport area.
An intensive search by armed officers was launched after the incident.
A Gwent police spokesman said: “ We are supporting the families of all concerned in this incident and our priority is to ensure they are kept informed as we continue to investigate exactly what happened.
We are extremely grateful for the support we have received from people living and working in the Malpas Road area of the city, whose lives and businesses were considerably disrupted during the day.”
Gwent police are appealing for anyone with information in relation to the incident, and in particular information relating to the shotgun, to contact us on 101 or via Crimestoppers.
