Bank closure blow for Rhos on Sea

Darren Millar AM has hit out at the HSBC’s decision to close their branch in Rhos on Sea in his constituency.

It was announced today that the HSBC will shortly be writing to customers to confirm that their Rhos on Sea branch will close by December 2011.

Commenting on the announcement, Darren said,

“This announcement is a real blow for Rhos on Sea residents.

Colwyn Bay and Rhos on Sea have been hit hard by the economic downturn and both have seen shops close in recent months.

“The closure of this branch will be a huge inconvenience to the HSBC’s loyal customers and demonstrates a lack of commitment to them and the areas they live in. Many residents in Rhos on Sea are elderly and rely on their local branch to access services. Now they will have to travel to Llandudno or Colwyn Bay.

He added, “We have already seen the closure of post offices, banks and telephone boxes across North Wales over the past couple of years – the HSBC’s decision is yet another example of the erosion of essential public services in our area.

“I have demanded an emergency meeting with HSBC’s senior management and will be urging them to reconsider this decision.”
