Darren Millar AM has made an urgent plea to the Welsh Government for action to address the future of Colwyn Bay pier.
Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has written to the Welsh Government’s Minister for Housing, Regeneration and Heritage seeking support to bring forward a solution for the future of the pier. Darren Millar’s plea for funding came as the trustee of the pier formally gave up interest in the pier, plunging its ownership into confusion. The pier has been unmaintained since 2008 and the cost of its renovation is estimated to be £5.5 million.
Darren said:
‘With the trustee of the pier formally giving up interest in the pier, its ownership has been plunged into confusion and needs resolving.
‘Given the importance of the pier to the heritage of Colwyn Bay and the prominent position it has on the local waterfront, I have urged the Minister to urgently investigate what action he can take and what resources may be able to the Welsh Government to bring a solution forward.
‘The condition of the pier is seriously compromised. Urgent action needs to be taken to address growing concerns over the safety and integrity of the structure.’
