A marquee promoting the work of Denbighshire and Flintshire County Councils was honoured with the best non-agricultural stand award at the annual Denbighshire and Flintshire Agricultural Show staged at The Green this week.
‘Streetscene’ was the theme at the councils’ joint marquee, with an external exhibition featuring a range of different vehicles seen out on our streets, including a gritter, street lighting, sweeper and food recycling vehicles.
Inside the marquee, Flintshire County Council promoted its Streetscene programme whilst Denbighshire County Council informed visitors to the show about its recycling scheme. Staff from the Councils’ rural development teams promoted rural walks in the county and offered children the chance to win a packed lunch for a family of four or a £25 meal voucher up for grabs, courtesy of Caffi Florence at Loggerheads Country Park.
Staff from the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) focused their exhibition on a new Farming booklet produced, as well as a demonstration of hedge-laying skills and biodiversity activities outside the marquee.
Triffordd nurseries from Flintshire showcased their own grown plants, with Meifod Wood Products displaying some of their tables and benches.
Chairman of Denbighshire, Councillor Bill Cowie said: “We are delighted to have won this award. A lot of effort had gone into arranging the marquee, with departments from both councils working closely together to put together a marquee and exhibitions that showcased our work.
“Hundreds of people visited the marquee during the day to find out more about the services offered by both councils and we hope they found our marquee and external exhibitions to be interesting and informative.”
Chairman of Flintshire, Councillor Hilary McGuill said: “This is the third year running for both councils to have a joint marquee on the show field. Working together is very much the way forward and it makes perfect sense for us to share resources.
“Both councils were proud to be associated with such a prestigious show and win the trophy. The show is a truly important event in the annual agricultural calendar and I’m pleased it attracted so many competitors and visitors. ”
