Rarer cancers report highlights need for Cancer Drugs Fund

Commenting on the findings of a report by the Rarer Cancers Foundation that patients in Wales are five times less likely to access new cancer medicines than patients in England, Darren Millar AM, Shadow Minister for Health and Social Services, said:

“This is further evidence of Welsh patients facing a postcode lottery in access to vital medicines in Labour’s NHS.

“It is grossly unfair that patients in Wales continue to be deprived of lifesaving and life-extending treatments, which are readily available to patients in England.

“This report puts fresh pressure on the Welsh Labour Government to set up a Cancer Drugs Fund, to ensure Welsh patients do not lose out and to look again at their £1bn cuts to the NHS.”
