Tour of Britain 2011 – View the route

Around 100 elite cyclists from across the world will speed through the streets of the Caerphilly county borough on Wednesday 14th September when The Tour of Britain passes through the area.

The Tour of Britain takes place over eight days and is made up of nine separate stages. The Welsh stage of the event will see the cyclists race down the length of Wales from Welshpool to Caerphilly on 14th September.

They will enter the Caerphilly county borough on the A472 near Nelson and travel down to Ystrad Mynach and then follow the old road through Llanbradach. The competitors will then head into Caerphilly and face the gruelling climb to the top of Caerphilly mountain before coming back down into the town for the stage finale at Caerphilly Castle.

A large number of road closures will need to be put in place on September 14th to allow the event to proceed safely. The council is implementing numerous traffic orders that will affect many side roads as well as the main route.
