Festive Fun is promised once again this year as Staff and Wardens on Flat Holm prepare for another fantastic Christmas on the Island.
Visitors are invited to celebrate the festive season on Flat Holm and experience the magic of island life at Christmas time.
This is the third time the team have organised a Christmas and New Year Break, with many people choosing to celebrate Christmas and see in the New Year on this distinctive island destination.
Bookings are now being taken for these holiday breaks and those who book before September 30 will receive an early bird discount of 10% per booking, just what every family needs in the run up to the festive season.
The Christmas trip departs on December 23 and returns on December 27. New Year celebrations will depart on the 30 December and returns 2 January 2012.
Flat Holm is an island in the middle of the Severn Estuary and although only five miles from Cardiff it provides an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. For the past two years the Island has been dusted in snow, offering fantastic scenery and amazing wildlife for everyone to explore.
Festive fun on Flat Holm includes games nights and a Christmas quiz. Alternatively guests can enjoy a leisurely shore walk, and sit back and watch the sunset. There is also an opportunity to help out with island conservation work including dry stone walling and chopping driftwood to make a fire for the cosy winter evenings spent in the Farmhouse.
Guests on the Island will stay in the dormitories, in the centrally heated island farmhouse and meals will be prepared on a rota basis, with everyone taking turns. On Christmas Day the Wardens will help prepare an extra special Christmas lunch for guests. If the weather is good on New Years Eve, there is the opportunity to use the outdoor bbq to see in the New year with a bang, whilst overlooking the explosion of fireworks over the Cardiff skyline.
This year there is a special Christmas treat for guests following the opening of the brand new island pub called The Gull and Leek, offering a selection of local beers, ales and wines. With an extended license over Christmas and on New Year’s Eve, this will be a truly memorable festive celebration!
The cost per person, per break is £225, which includes return boat transfer, accommodation, and food including a special Christmas lunch or New Year celebration bbq or indoor meal. Also the pub will be open for those wishing to enjoy a tipple! And for those booking before the end of September you only need to pay £202.50.
Executive Member for Sport, Culture and Leisure, Cllr Nigel Howells, said:
