Get on the art trail

Calling all art lovers – there is a unique opportunity to take part in an art road trip and meet artists and craft makers in their studios.

The event is part of the Helfa Gelf Art Trail 2011, an annual event where artists across North Wales open their studios and workshops to the public during September.

The coach trip takes place on Saturday, 17 September when participants will meet nine different artists at various workshops and exhibitions.

The day’s itinerary:

10.20am: Bus leaves Caernarfon – meeting point at the Apollo bingo hall, Crown Street, Caernarfon.

11am: Visit Bill Swann’s glass workshop and gallery at Porthmadog.

12am: Visit Pethau Melys café and craft shop in Porthmadog, under the management of artists Tom Gloster and Myfanwy Griffiths. A cup of tea and Welsh Cake for all.

1pm: Lunch at Oriel Caffi Croesor, and an opportunity to see an exhibition by artists Ann Lewis, Julie Gritten, Tudur Owen and Sheelagh Stephens.

2.10pm: Visit the studio of artist Bev Dunne at Croesor.

3pm: Visit the studio of artist Eleanor Brooks at Llanfrothen.

3.50pm: Bus drops off in Porthmadog.

4.30pm: Bus returns to Caernarfon.

Gwawr Roberts, Gwynedd Council’s Community Arts Development Officer, said: “The Art Trail in its sixth year and is a unique opportunity for people who are interested in the arts to meet the people behind the artwork and discuss their inspirations, techniques and experiences.

“This coach trip is an exciting addition to the Helfa Gelf Art Trail experience, the day has already been mapped out for participants and it’s a chance to share the day with like minded people.

“We hope this event will spur people on to continue with the Art Trail as there are many more studios and workshops open throughout North Wales during September.

“I would urge people to get in touch as soon as possible if they want to join us for the day as spaces are limited.”
