Chrysanthemum’s the word

Some of the best chrysanths in Wales will be on show at the National Botanic Garden on September 17-18.

The Chrysanthemum Show is organised by the South Wales Group of the National Chrysanthemum Society, one of just six groups covering the whole of the UK.

Society member and National Botanic Garden volunteer Brian James, from Neath, said: “The flowers on show will be the best chrysanthemums grown in South Wales. In fact, flowers grown by the same growers win major awards at the society’s national show held every year in Stafford.”

Brian explained that the competition would follow the same lines as the national show with local clubs and individual growers doing battle for the top honours.

The growers come from all over south Wales; from Milford Haven to Newport and from the Merthyr and Rhondda valleys.

Brian added: “Anyone interested in growing chrysanthemums for showing or garden decoration will be able to get advice from the experts and also see the produce of some of the best growers around.”

The Garden is open from 10am to 6pm both days. The show will be open from 1pm-5pm on the Saturday, and 10am-4pm, Sunday.
