Get On Your Bike This Autumn in RCT

With miles and miles of cycle routes throughout Rhondda Cynon Taf, bikers are being encouraged to get out and about and enjoy the area in which they live and work.

With the Tour of Britain 2011 passing though the County Borough on Wednesday, 14 September, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council hopes many cyclists will be inspired to follow in their tracks.

And if the weather is too bad, do not be deterred as there are plenty of cycling opportunities to be had indoors!

Adults and teens can hire bikes at Abercynon Sports Centre, Hawthorn Leisure Centre, Rhondda Fach Sports Centre, Tylorstown, and Michael Sobell Sports Centre, Aberdare.

Adults aged 16-plus and young people aged 14 or 15, accompanied by an adult, can hire a cycle for up to six hours for just £3.10, or £1.55 for level 2/3 morecard holders. Up to 12 hours’ hire costs £5.20, or £2.60 for level 2/3 morecard holders.

Bikes can be hired continuously for a maximum of seven days and all accessories are provided.

To hire a bike, you will need one photo I.D. such as a Rhondda Cynon Taf morecard; driving licence, passport and one proof of address such as driving licence, recent utility bill or bank statement.

But if cycling outdoors is not your thing, why not give it a go in one of the Council’s Leisure Centres.

Aerobiking is a craze that is taking Rhondda Cynon Taf by storm. It is a great way to incorporate exercise in to your daily life, plus you can get fit, shed those unwanted pounds and have fun at the same time in the comfort of a gymnasium.

It forms part of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Leisure for Life campaign.

Leisure for life is the new campaign launched by the Council that aims to get people of all ages active and undertaking exercise in a bid to improve their health and wellbeing. It’s all about taking simple steps to make exercise part of your daily routine and reaping the benefits alongside potential weight loss, enhanced fitness, muscle gain or even improved socialisation.

Cllr Robert Bevan, Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “Many people now recognise the benefits of cycling – not only to their health but also to the environment – so I am delighted that we now offer cycle hire at our Leisure Centres.

“We are delighted the aerobiking facilities are also proving to be very popular with our residents. Aerobike sessions are the latest craze in the UK and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is leading the way by providing these first-class facilities.

“Our 11 Leisure Centres also offer a wide range of other activities that the whole family can enjoy as individuals or as a unit.”
