Prestatyn Bus Station is to close temporarily from 3rd October 2011 to allow contractors to begin an exciting refurbishment as part of a joint project between Tesco/Stadium and Denbighshire County Council.
The £600K scheme will see improvements to this integrated hub including a new layout for buses, improved access to and from the town centre, and additional highway improvements.
The Council aims to enhance disabled access and improve facilities at the bus station. Once complete, passengers will notice more shelter space, security improvements such as CCTV, better lighting and improved pedestrian routes between the town centre and bus station.
Funding for the improvements comes from the Welsh Government, Taith and Denbighshire County Council.
While the bus station itself is closed, there will be temporary stops provided on King’s Avenue, as follows:
- Stop 1 – Service 11 (to Holywell / Chester); Service 35 (via Dyserth); Service 13 (Llandudno)
- Stop 2 – Service 11 (to Rhyl); Service 36 (via the Ffrith);
- Stop 3 – Service 18 / 19 (all directions); Service 38 (Town Service)
Councillor Sharon Frobisher, Cabinet Lead Member for Environment, said: “This redevelopment of the bus station is part of the exciting refurbishment due to take place in that part of Prestatyn.
“The brand new facilities will benefit both local residents and public transport users and we would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience these temporary works may cause.
“We will keep people informed on progress and advise people when the brand new facilities will re-open.”
