Independent Music Bar – The Full Moon to Rise in Cardiff’s City Centre

Saturday 1st October will see the opening of a new independent music bar in Cardiff city centre promising to bring a unique experience to the music lovers of South Wales.

The venue owners Steve Bines and Gwyn Thomas and their team have taken their 20 years experience in bars and music venues around the country, taken all the best bits, added a few of their own special twists and created The Full Moon.

Gwyn Thomas told us:

“The Full Moon is all about great music and great drinks in an easy going, everybody welcome atmosphere. We’ve got a unique jukebox covering everything from the alternative classics to local rising stars, alongside a hand-picked drinks menu that adds specials from around the world to the usual favourites.”

The Full Moon is also promising an exciting mix of guest DJs and extra special live events at the bar.

Steve Bines explained:

“Although first and foremost we are a bar, we couldn’t resist hosting one or two special live performances, giving a unique chance to see a well-known artist in a really intimate setting. We should be able to announce the first of these soon, but we can reveal that they include a Reading Festival headliner and a Mercury Prize winner. The best thing about these shows is that since we are a bar overall, we will never, ever have a charge on the door!”

The bar is situated on Womanby Street in the constantly evolving Castle Quarter.

Gwyn Thomas continued:

“It’s fantastic to be opening in such an exciting time for this part of town. The Castle Quarter has seen a lot of investment recently with the new pedestrian areas in particular creating an area that reminds me of the music quarters on the continent where seating on the street and music drifting out of every café and bar creates a really vibrant atmosphere.”

The Full Moon will remain fiercely independent; something that the owners feel will directly benefit customers.

Steve Bines added:

“Unlike the chain bars, we’re not restricted in any way. Whether it’s a particular artist on the jukebox or an obscure Bourbon for the bar, we can listen to our customers and give them what they want. This is their bar and we want it to be the best bar they’ve ever been to!”

The Full Moon also aims to be a unique hub for gig goers by listing gigs, selling tickets and with exclusive drinks offers for ticket holders.

Gwyn Thomas explained:

“We are all lovers of music, and are very keen to support all live music in the South Wales area. We have a What’s-On area with listings and posters for upcoming gigs across South Wales, and a box office facility selling tickets for the shows. If you then bring your ticket in on the night of the gig you’ll have access to unique drinks offers including 10% off all drinks.”

Licensed until 2am, seven nights per week, The Full Moon is set to open Saturday 1st October with a weekend of launch events. Cardiff is already buzzing with anticipation, and with only a few weeks to go until the launch, keep your eyes peeled for more exciting announcements.
