Come and Meet the Funders

Community groups and voluntary organisations in Cardiff will be given free advice and information from funding organisations and given the opportunity to attend workshops on how to apply for funding at Communities First and Voluntary Action Cardiff’s annual funding fair.

The free event is being held in the Beacon Centre St Mellons on Thursday 22nd September 2011starting at 9.30am and finishing at 3.30pm.

Interested groups can come along to the drop-in event, to meet funders, visit information stalls and find out more about the grants they can access. The event is a great way for fundraisers to learn about methods of diversifying their income and also sharing ideas and tips with other grant seekers.

Morning workshops are aimed at groups and organisations in Communities First areas, new groups and groups who have not yet applied for grant funding.

The workshops will advise fundraisers on what they should consider before applying for grants and how to complete applications that tick all the boxes with potential funders.

The afternoon workshops are aimed at more established organisations and will include valuable guidance on how groups can ensure their funding continues after their initial application has been granted. The workshop aims to raise awareness and understanding of sustainable funding and finding the right funding mix.

A workshop will also be held by Martin Pennington, the manager of the Beacon Centre who, as a result of the information he received attending at last years event was successful in applying for a grant of £75K. Martin will be explaining his achievements, and how to run a successful facility like to Beacon Centre.

Other organisations taking part include the Sports Council for Wales, the Big Lottery Fund, the Communities First Trust Fund and specialised surgeries with Comic Relief and Lloyds TSB.

Cllr Judith Woodman, Executive Member for Communities, Housing and Social Justice, said: “This is a great event for organisations and volunteers who want to engage in different activities and meet other organisations whilst making the most of the funding and partnership opportunities available.”
