Thanks to Flintshire residents involved in the initial roll out of the new collections, the black bin waste generated in those households has halved!
Meanwhile, the roll out is continuing across the county. Last month, the new wheeled bins and a booklet containing all the information needed about the changes to the service, were distributed to another 12,000 households. The remaining households will start to receive their wheeled bins over the coming months, until the whole county is covered by the new service.
Households will be receiving the following services:
- A weekly recycling collection
- A weekly collection of food waste
- A fortnightly collection of non–recyclable waste (refuse) alternating with…
- A fortnightly green waste collection service (brown bin)
Collections will take place on the same day of the week which will be easier for residents. Residents are asked to make sure that the wheeled bins are presented at the kerbside with the bin lid closed by 7am on their collection day, to ensure collection. If necessary, bins can be placed out for collection the night before.
Councillor Nancy Matthews, Executive Member for Waste, said:
“Following the initial roll out of fortnightly refuse and weekly recycling and food waste collections, the amount of black bin waste generated per household has halved from an average of 10 kg per household to only 5 kg.
“Recycling rates have also increased dramatically in these areas, which shows that residents are willing to embrace the new service and the benefits to the environment it affords.
“It is so important that we recycle as much as we can, as the county has to meet strict recycling targets set by the Welsh Government, or we face tough financial penalties.”
