Some of the Gwynedd Museum & Art Gallery artefacts and objects will come to life on Bangor High Street on Saturday, 1 October 2011.
There will be something for the whole family with characters that have been inspired by some of the museum’s artefacts including a slate fan and a giant conch shell coming to life on the high street.
Some of these items would have been everyday items – the conch shell for calling time in a community such as when it was time to bring bread to the oven to be baked or for harvesters working in the fields to relax for lunch, while the slate fan is a recognisable craft item that is particular to this area of Gwynedd.
Esther Roberts, Curator of the Gwynedd Museum & Art Gallery said:
“These items appear to be quite quirky items as they are unfamiliar to our world today – so by bringing them to life through life sized characters, the story of their use and place in our history can be shared in a fun and interactive way that all the family will enjoy.
“There will also be large installations to be seen in the Museum and Gallery gardens which are interactive and bring the museum’s items to life in a fun and accessible way. We hope that regular visitors and people who might not have visited before will come along and enjoy the wide-variety of art and local history we have on display.”
The performance will be led by Megan Broadmeadow, a conceptual and performance artist based in the Conwy Valley. She works on individual and collaborative exhibitions, residencies and performances across Wales and the UK. Such work includes making public sculpture and installations as well as devising and producing comedy cabaret shows, sketches and short films with live art collective Ffaf.
The performance on Bangor High Street which is one of many activities in the city on Saturday, 1 October, when the Illuminata on the old bowling green will be a key feature. The performance will start at 1pm and end at the garden of the Gwynedd Museum & Art Gallery, Bangor.
This is a free event which is suitable for all the family. Come along and enjoy the fun.
