Wales’ first ever Literature Lounge will be opened in Cardiff this October by national company Literature Wales. For one month only, an unused unit in the Eastside Restaurant Quarter of St David’s shopping centre will be transformed into a pop-up literary emporium. Literature Wales will be serving up a scrumptious menu of literary events throughout October including poetry, prose, performance, games, workshops, talks, readings and much more.
Join Literature Wales on Friday 30 September from 6.00 pm for music and poetry at the Literature Lounge opening party where performance poets Aneirin Karadog and Clare Potter will be taking on the café vibe and delivering poems to order. Saturday 1 October will see writer Mike Church leading drop-in circus poetry workshops for adults and children followed on Sunday by the launch of the Literature Lounge Book Swap. Bring along your own books throughout October and swap them for thrilling new reads from the Literature Lounge bookshelf. One of the highlights of the events programme will be the announcement of the first ever Young People’s Laureate for Wales on Tuesday 18 October.
Lleucu Siencyn, Acting Chief Executive at Literature Wales said: “The Literature Lounge project is incredibly exciting for us as it is an opportunity to put the power of reading, writing and creativity at the heart of a busy retail outlet. Literature Wales is a new and growing organisation constantly on the lookout for innovative ways to spark enthusiasm for the spoken and written word – and the Literature Lounge is just one of these.”
With a wide range of events and activity planned throughout the whole of October you can be sure that no two visits to the Literature Lounge will be the same.
