Liftshare Week is the UK-wide event which aims to encourage and enable more people to discover the benefits of car-sharing. Liftshare’s online network matches people with similar journeys so they can travel better together – saving money, cutting their carbon footprint, having fun and making the world a better place.
Flintshire County Council’s own branded group Car-sharing, Walking and Cycling Budi Scheme has now been running for two years. The scheme enables employees to share lifts to any destination or find a Budi to walk or cycle to work.
Employees can access the scheme through Flintshire County Council’s infonet page or directly at Flintshirecc.liftshare.com and register their journey details for free. The system will then tell them if anyone else is going in the same direction, leaving it up to them to make contact through a secure e-mail connection, and arrange to share both the journey and the costs of travel. The scheme has been designed to be as safe and secure as possible, personal information will not be revealed on-line. In addition, women can choose to travel with women only and men can also choose to travel with men only.
The software behind the system has been provided by the specialist car-sharing company, lift share, which runs 1,305 car sharing schemes and has 460,802 registered members on one central database. This means that employees can choose whether to look for lifts within the Flintshire County Council group or from the whole liftshare database, thereby increasing the likelihood that they’ll find a match to their journey requirements.
Councillor Tony Sharps, Executive Member for Environment and Chairman of TAITH, a consortium of six local authorities in North Wales, said:
“We’re encouraging employees to use this Liftshare database to help contribute to the Council’s Green Agenda, actively reducing carbon emissions.
“TAITH has also established its own car share site to help the people of the region find car sharing partners. Car sharing is encouraged by all of the Local Authorities in Wales and is supported by many major employers in the region as a part of their Travel Planning.”
