Commenting on today’s announcement by the Director of BBC Cymru Wales, Shadow Minister for Heritage Suzy Davies AM, said:
“It is absolutely crucial that the BBC properly protects its news coverage in Wales and I am initially satisfied that it has worked hard to do just that.
“While the loss of 100 jobs remains a severe blow to those affected – along with their families – I am pleased that the Corporation has created new positions and limited the impact on its workforce.
“I am thrilled that Welsh language flagship programmes will remain in place. While I am disappointed that Dragon’s Eye will not be retained in its current format, I am confident that an increased opportunity for Wales’s independent sector, within BBC Cymru Wales, helps to open up a fresh and challenging future for creative industries in Wales.
“I am particularly heartened to see there will be no cuts in daily news services and I very much hope there is no devil within the detail yet to be made public.”
