Shadow Education Minister and South Pembrokeshire AM Angela Burns has sought assurances from the Welsh Government that they will conduct an inquiry into the scandal surrounding the University Of Wales.
Mrs Burns said, “I have written to the minister expressing my deep concerns over The University Of Wales and the scandal’s over overseas validation and now the degrees for sale.
Many local students go on to study at The University Of Wales and it is not fair that this hard work should be tarnished by the lax processes and procedures of the senior management. I would like the ex Vice Chancellor to explain what went wrong and to consider if it is appropriate he stays on as President of the University.
So many dedicated staff and hard working students have been let down and I am looking to the new Chancellor to act with determination and rigour to sort out this mess.
I also believe that unless there is a solid way forward the brand needs to be reviewed because of the damaging impact this is having on other universities such as Cardiff, Swansea, Bangor, Aberystwyth”.
