Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has welcomed a decision by Conwy County Borough Council to press ahead with a pedestrian crossing on a busy Rhos-on-Sea road.
The decision was taken at a meeting called by Darren Millar to discuss the concerns of local residents and shopkeepers, who had expressed concerns about loss of parking and loading areas if the crossing on Penrhyn Avenue went ahead.
The Council has now agreed to protect resident parking spaces and provide additional loading bays as part of the road safety scheme.
Local campaigner Lyndsay French co-ordinated fund-raising in the village to secure the project.
Darren Millar said:
‘Local residents have been incredibly frustrated at the delays in delivering a crossing on Penrhyn Avenue so I’m glad that the council is now moving full steam ahead.
‘The crossing will make a big difference to safety for residents, especially pupils getting to and from local schools.
‘I want to pay tribute to Lyndsay French and other campaigners for their hard work in helping to raise the cash needed for this crossing.’
Cllr Roger Parry said:
‘I’m delighted that Darren has finally managed to secure agreement for the crossing to go ahead. It can’t come a moment too soon for local residents.’
Cllr Merfyn Thomas said:
‘The proposed loading bays near the shops will address the concerns of local shopkeepers whilst still allowing the crossing to go ahead. The crossing has my full support.’
