A city primary school is throwing open its doors to the local community to celebrate its 75th anniversary.
Baden Powell Primary School in Tremorfa will be marking its landmark birthday with an open day on Saturday October 15, (9am to 12pm) when pupils, parents and staff past and present along with members of the community are invited to visit and have a tour of the school, share memories of school days past and see photos from the school’s history.
Visitors to the school during the open day will be able to take part in a competition to redesign the school badge.
The school was opened in 1936 as Baden Powell Infant and Baden Powell Junior Schools and named after the founder of the Scout and Guide movement in recognition of his receiving the Freedom of the City of Cardiff.
The schools were amalgamated to become Baden Powell Primary in 1982 and past pupils include Welsh international and Liverpool footballer Craig Bellamy.
Baden Powell Primary Headteacher Jason Clark said: “2011 is a special year in Baden Powell Primary’s history. The school has been at the heart of the community, in one form or another, for the last 75 years and we want to make sure that everyone who wants to join us in our celebration later this month can come along and find out about the school’s history and current work we do.
“We’re looking forward to seeing parents, pupils and staff from the past and present on our open day. Everyone will be very welcome.”
