Calling all budding entrepreneurs in Denbighshire

A scheme which aims to support and nurture budding entrepreneurs of the future is being launched in Denbighshire.

The Llwyddo’n Lleol programme is an innovative scheme which has been developed to foster a culture of enterprise amongst young people and restore their confidence in the opportunities available to both live and work in their local communities.

The launch, taking place at the Scala Cinema and Arts Centre, Prestatyn on Friday, 14 October will involve workshops with youngsters on producing CDs and DVDs, as well as a Mini Me 3D modelling workshop.

The programme aims to smooth a young person’s transition into employment or self-employment by developing the individual and highlighting specific work opportunities available. It also specifically highlights self-employment as a viable career option.

The project is a collaborative partnership between Denbighshire, Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey Councils and has received funding from the Convergence European Social Fund through the Welsh Government.

Llwyddo’n Lleol looks at providing an innovative series of entrepreneurship modules linked to BTEC accreditation, sessions on generating creative enterprise ideas, a Llwyddo’n Lleol bursary and a series of activities specific to the main target sectors in Denbighshire.

Councillor Morfudd Jones, Cabinet Lead Member for Young People, said: “The scheme targets young people aged 14-19 in secondary schools and we want to send out a message that local communities can offer a vibrant future to young people in terms of employment and opportunities to become self-employed.

“The scheme in Denbighshire will specifically target growth sectors in health and care, hospitality, tourism, retail, the creative sector and sustainable environment”.

The scheme hopes to reinforce young people’s understanding and knowledge of enterprise and entrepreneurship, challenge perceptions, promote rural areas which can offer opportunities to young people and reinforce policies linked to Denbighshire’s ‘The Big Plan and the Welsh Government’s ‘Youth Entrepreneurship Action Plan’
