A call has been made to the Welsh Government to provide additional support for Wales’ struggling market towns.
Clwyd West AM Darren Millar this week urged the Welsh Government to introduce a market towns initiative to address the particular problems that market towns like Ruthin are facing in the current economic climate.
When asked to comment Darren said:
“Market towns such as Ruthin in my constituency have been hard hit by the current economic climate and are in need of some additional support. Retailers are facing tough times and I don’t want to see anymore empty shops in our town centres.
“I urged the First Minister to consider introducing a market towns initiative to address the particular problems that market towns are facing.
“Such an initiative could operate in a similar manner to the Welsh Government’s strategic regeneration areas which is delivering improvement in areas such as Colwyn Bay.”
“Our small businesses are the backbone of the Welsh economy, particularly in small rural towns. The Government needs to do more to support them.”
