New £300,000 gym proving popular

The new state-of-the-art fitness room at the Arfon Tennis Centre in Caernarfon is proving a hit with people of all ages.

Following substantial investment from Gwynedd Council worth £300,000, the new-look fitness room includes a range of fitness equipment which is suitable for children as well as adults who want to make use the latest fitness equipment. The new-look gym has now doubled in size and is one of the very best available for disability sport participants in Wales.

Councillor Roy Owen, Gwynedd Council portfolio holder with responsibility for leisure, said: “I’m delighted that the Council has been able to invest in these important and popular services. The new gym is suitable for the whole family and also includes the latest inclusive fitness machines which offer disabled people some of the best facilities in Wales.

“We all know that keeping fit and active is key to a healthy and happy life and I hope these improvements at the Tennis Centre will encourage more people to use the facilities we have on-offer.”

The new and improved fitness room includes a range of the latest gym equipment with a 25 station gym which includes a Mokoto and Lightwall reaction machines – the first to be installed in the UK, as well as Technogym machines which offers the perfect opportunity for residents and visitors to Caernarfon to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

Gerallt Roberts, Arfon Leisure and Tennis Centre Manager said: “The new gym is fantastic and we are delighted to be able to provide such a great facility to the various sectors of the community. It is particularly gratifying to see so many people making use of the new facility and working so hard to improve their health, and we are thankful to our staff who have all responded so well to the large increase in regular customers.

“It has been great to see families using the new gym – giving the opportunity for parents and children to use the centre to keep fit together.”

Alun Jones, gym member and the Council’s Active Young People Coordinator, added: “The Arfon Tennis Centre is a fantastic facility for people of all ages and I hope that more young people from the age of 11 will make good use of this brilliant new gym. Our team will now be working in local schools to encourage the children to use this new facility – it is now an unbelievable bonus for the community and I am extremely impressed with the wide-range and quality of equipment now available.”
